Backstory: a few weeks ago, I accepted an internship with the DC Center for LGBT Resources. My father found out, threatened to kick me out if I did it, and basically raged on and on for a while. My flight to DC is on May 24th, and I’m pretty sure my father was going to keep me from catching it.

Just now, he came into my room and yelled at my brother for playing Starcraft II on my Dell. (I’m typing this on an old Macbook.) Then he threatened to smash my laptop, to which I replied that it was my property. The Dell was given to me by my university as part of my scholarship, and it is considered their property for a year until I start my second year there.

Upon me informing him of this, he grew enraged, picked up my laptop, and smashed it on the bedpost. The frame is broken, it won’t close properly, etc…

My father has had a history of violence with me, one that I don’t want to go into yet. However, calling the cops isn’t an option, since he’s the sole supporter of my family, and my mother can’t support herself; I also have three siblings.

Anyway, I need to get out of here. I live in Huntsville, Alabama. If anyone has any ideas or can give me a place to stay until the 24th, that would be most helpful. Thank you so much for reading this.

holy shit, is there anyone close by that can help this person??

There’s already a Change.org petition against the passing of Amendment One, which banned same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships in North Carolina. These things actually tend to be pretty damn effective.

Let’s see what the power of Tumblr can do! I know there’s at least a million Tumblr users who are against this sort of harmful discrimination and bigotry.

Sign the petition and reblog to spread the word, please!

Amina Filali, Morocco Rape Victim, Commits Suicide After Forced Marriage To Rapist

Need help? In the U.S., call 1-800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

RABAT, Morocco — The case of a 16-year-old girl who killed herself after she was forced to marry her rapist has spurred outrage among Morocco’s internet activists and calls for changes to the country’s laws.
An online petition, a Facebook page and countless tweets expressed horror over the suicide of Amina Filali, who swallowed rat poison on Saturday to protest her marriage to the man who raped her a year earlier.
Article 475 of the Moroccan penal code allows for the “kidnapper” of a minor to marry his victim to escape prosecution, and it has been used to justify a traditional practice of making a rapist marry his victim to preserve the honor of the woman’s family.
“Amina, 16, was triply violated, by her rapist, by tradition and by Article 475 of the Moroccan law,” tweeted activist Abadila Maaelaynine.
Abdelaziz Nouaydi, who runs the Adala Assocation for legal reform, said a judge can recommend marriage only in the case of agreement by the victim and both families.
“It is not something that happens a great deal – it is very rare,” he said, but admitted that the family of the victim sometimes agrees out of fear that she won’t be able to find a husband if it is known she was raped.
The marriage is then pushed on the victim by the families to avoid scandal, said Fouzia Assouli, president of Democratic League for Women’s Rights.
“It is unfortunately a recurring phenomenon,” she said.”We have been asking for years for the cancellation of Article 475 of the penal code which allows the rapist to escape justice.”
The victim’s father said in an interview with an online Moroccan newspaper that it was the court officials who suggested from the beginning the marriage option when they reported the rape.
“The prosecutor advised my daughter to marry, he said ‘go and make the marriage contract,’” said Lahcen Filali in an interview that appeared on goud.ma Tuesday night.
In many societies, the loss of a woman’s virginity outside of wedlock is a huge stain of honor on the family.
In many parts of the Middle East, there is a tradition whereby a rapist can escape prosecution if he marries his victim, thereby restoring her honor. There is a similar injunction in the Old Testament’s Book of Deuteronomy
Morocco updated its family code in 2004 in a landmark improvement of the situation of women, but activists say there’s still room for improvement.
In cases of rape, the burden of proof is often on the victim and if she can’t prove she was attacked, a woman risks being prosecuted for debauchery.
“In Morocco, the law protects public morality but not the individual,” said Assouli, adding that legislation outlawing all forms of violence against women, including rape within marriage, has been stuck in the government since 2006.
According to the father’s interview, the girl was accosted on the street and raped when she was 15, but it was two months before she told her parents.
He said the court pushed the marriage, even though the perpetrator initially refused. He only consented when faced with prosecution. The penalty for rape is between five and 10 years in prison, but rises to 10 to 20 in the case of a minor.
Filali said Amina complained to her mother that her husband was beating her repeatedly during the five months of marriage but that her mother counseled patience.
A Facebook page called “We are all Amina Filali” has been formed and an online petition calling for Morocco to end the practice of marrying rapists and their victims has already gathered more than 1,000 signatures.

Do you support webcomics? Take this one question survey:

1. Do you take the RSS feed of over 90 webcomics, rip the images, put them in your Android app, and then put your own advertisements next to them in order to make money?

Congratulations: If you said “Yes”, then NO, YOU DO NOT SUPPORT WEBCOMICS.

There’s a thief- and he is a thief, let’s not be wimpy on that point- that has done exactly that, releasing his app in “Pro” and “Free” versions (wow, what a nice guy!) for people to read their favorite webcomics and earn him money. Somehow, this is not only okay, but apparently “supporting publishers for their efforts”. In other news, robbing a bank is “helping them gain exposure”.

The name of the app is DailyComix. I won’t be linking the app - no chance in hell - but if you are a fan of one of the below listed webcomics, please contact the creators and let them know that they are being stolen from and that a software dev has made the decision for them how their content is viewed. The developer has posted that they are honoring all requests to have strips removed (again, what a SWELL GUY!), and it’s my hope that the only webcomic left when we’re done getting the word around is his own.

The current list of comics “supported” by the app:

Why isn’t Tumblr doing anything about this?
Please note that this attack has absolutely nothing to do with the Missing e browser extension!
A while back there was a serious problem with a lot of blogs posting fake “staff” posts about Starbucks coupons or other spam-related things. That problem is still going on.
I’m pretty sure it is linked to what you see in the above photo. Quite a few Tumblr blogs that have been compromised (had their password stolen) have had a few lines of JavaScript added to their themes that cause a pretty big FAKE Tumblr login screen to show up, insisting that the blog you are viewing is somehow 18+ and you have to enter your login to continue.
~ Why is this a problem? ~
This is pretty bad, considering many people on Tumblr are not exceeding tech-savvy. I mean, the thing looks legitimate. I wouldn’t be surprised if quite a few people have just given their passwords away because of this thing. Then, their blog theme is itself changed to continue propagating this phishing attack.
To be clear, you should never enter your password into any page that is not a secure Tumblr page. Here’s a staff post on how to recognize a secure page.
~ What should Tumblr be doing? ~
The script actually loads from a server in China (IP: 222.47.112.220), but beyond that I can’t really work out anything about who is behind it.
The real question I have is why Tumblr hasn’t done anything about this. Other than posting helpful information on recognizing secure Tumblr pages], they don’t seem to be doing very much! I would expect that it would be possible for Tumblr to prevent this script from actually running on themed blog pages, considering it can be traced directly to a malicious server.
I’m thinking about adding something into Missing e to get rid of these fake login boxes, but that doesn’t solve the problem by a long shot!
~ What to do if your account is a victim ~
If your blog is posting spam or your themed blog shows the fake login screen, you can fix it!
First things first, change your password! When you do so, make sure the page you are on is a secure Tumblr page (how to recognize one)
Second, if your blog has the fake login screen, you need to reset your blog’s theme!
If that isn’t possible, you can go in and remove the offending code. It is a couple of lines near the bottom of your theme code that start and end with <script> tags and has a bunch of code with seemingly random numbers and letters

I tried to send someone an Ask today and this popped up, so I’m posting it for my readers. Have a friend visit your page and see if this happens. And change your password regularly!

Meet Omari. Two days ago he returned from the hospital after being hacked in the face by a machete defending an orphanage of 35 children by himself.
This man dedicates his life to take care of 35 orphaned children from the ages of 2-17 in Kenya. A couple of days ago a group of thugs raided the orphanage to pilage anything they could find, after beating and slashing Omari’s face for defending the children and himself from a previous attempted attack.
The only thing the children are living off of right now are things growing from their small garden, and eggs from a couple of chickens in their coup. Reddit looked to aim to raise $2,000 a couple of hours ago to help build a concrete wall around the orphanage with a 3 layered barbed-wire coil set on top.
In 3 hours, over $11,000 has been donated - and all the extra money is going to feeding them, giving them an education, keeping these children (and many more) safe, and building a new facility.
